 It looks like it is going to be a typical, beautiful weekend in Wilmington this week.  There are plenty of events to keep you busy besides the beach!  The Parade of Homes continues and there are a lot of homes available in Wilmington to purchase now!  It is a great time to buy since there is a nice selection and interest rates continue to stay low!  Here is the line-up:

  •  2ND ANNUAL CASTLE HAYNE HAWG CRAWL, Friday and Saturday.  This event consists of an overnight pig cook-off which begins on Friday.  There will be arts & crafts vendors, food vendors and live entertainment on both days plus BBQ will be sold on Saturday.  Proceeds will go to Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program and beautification projects for Castle Hayne.
  • CAPE FEAR INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL, Friday through Sunday at the City Stage.  The best film will win the $1000 grand prize.  The festival is presented by the Cape Fear Independent Film Network.  The opening ceremony will be held at Bottega Wine Gallery. 
  • BATTLESHIP ALIVE, Friday through Sunday at the Battleship North Carolina.  Watch and interact with WW II living history interpreters as they bring the ship to life by enacting daily duties and drills.  The USS NORTH CAROLINA BATTLESHIP Crew Association will be holding their reunion this weekend. 
  • 8TH ANNUAL TOUCH OF CLASS CHARITY AUCTION, Friday at the Courtyard by Marriott in Carolina Beach.  An exciting evening including appetizers, a champagne toast and a Silent and Live Auction with opportunities to bid on trips, art, jewelry and much more!  The event helps raise thousands of dollars for many wonderful charities.
  • 4TH ANNUAL MAYFAIRE “MUSIC ON THE TOWN” CONCERT SERIES, Friday from 6-9.  Every Friday night the free concert will be held on the Mayfaire Event Lawn behind Linens ‘n Things and World Market.  Mayfaire Town Center is located off of Military Cutoff just a few minutes from Wrightsville Beach. 
  • JAZZ AT AIRLIE GARDENS, Friday from 6-8 pm.  Enjoy an eclectic mix of Jazz every first Friday and Beach music every third Friday of the month at Airlie Gardens. 
  • 12TH ANNUAL NEW PLAY FESTIVAL, Friday at Thalian Hall.  An exciting festival of never-before-produced works by authors under 18 years old.  Local writers and educators guide the playwrights through workshops to prepare the plays for their premier.
  • FIREWORKS IN DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON, Friday at Riverfront Park in Historic Downtown Wilmington.  Tune in to WGNI 102.7 for the simulcast choreographed music.  The fireworks are in celebration of the commissioning of the New USS NORTH CAROLINA Submarine.
  • 22ND ANNUAL PARADE OF HOMES, Saturday and Sunday. 
  • OPEN HOUSE AT BENNETT BROTHERS YACHTS, Saturday.  They will be serving breakfast and having a nautical yard sale. Bennet Brothers is located at 1701 J.E.L. Wade Drive.
  • 19TH ANNUAL RIVER TO THE SEA BIKE RIDE, Saturday at 8:45am.  An easy, casual -paced 20 mile ride to Wrightsville Beach Park and back.  Refreshments will be provided at the halfway point.  The bike ride will begin at Thalian Hall in Historic Downtown Wilmington.
  • CAROLINA BEACH BOARDWALK MAKEOVER CELEBRATION, Saturday in Carolina Beach.  Plenty of events which include a parade, performances, eating contests, art, bands and fireworks.  The Celebration begins at 8:30am.
