 It looks like it is going to be a typical, beautiful weekend in Wilmington this week.  There are plenty of events to keep you busy besides the beach!  The Parade of Homes continues and there are a lot of homes available in Wilmington to purchase now!  It is a great time to buy since there is a nice selection and interest rates continue to stay low!  Here is the line-up:

  •  2ND ANNUAL CASTLE HAYNE HAWG CRAWL, Friday and Saturday.  This event consists of an overnight pig cook-off which begins on Friday.  There will be arts & crafts vendors, food vendors and live entertainment on both days plus BBQ will be sold on Saturday.  Proceeds will go to Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program and beautification projects for Castle Hayne.
  • CAPE FEAR INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL, Friday through Sunday at the City Stage.  The best film will win the $1000 grand prize.  The festival is presented by the Cape Fear Independent Film Network.  The opening ceremony will be held at Bottega Wine Gallery. 
  • BATTLESHIP ALIVE, Friday through Sunday at the Battleship North Carolina.  Watch and interact with WW II living history interpreters as they bring the ship to life by enacting daily duties and drills.  The USS NORTH CAROLINA BATTLESHIP Crew Association will be holding their reunion this weekend. 
  • 8TH ANNUAL TOUCH OF CLASS CHARITY AUCTION, Friday at the Courtyard by Marriott in Carolina Beach.  An exciting evening including appetizers, a champagne toast and a Silent and Live Auction with opportunities to bid on trips, art, jewelry and much more!  The event helps raise thousands of dollars for many wonderful charities.
  • 4TH ANNUAL MAYFAIRE “MUSIC ON THE TOWN” CONCERT SERIES, Friday from 6-9.  Every Friday night the free concert will be held on the Mayfaire Event Lawn behind Linens ‘n Things and World Market.  Mayfaire Town Center is located off of Military Cutoff just a few minutes from Wrightsville Beach. 
  • JAZZ AT AIRLIE GARDENS, Friday from 6-8 pm.  Enjoy an eclectic mix of Jazz every first Friday and Beach music every third Friday of the month at Airlie Gardens. 
  • 12TH ANNUAL NEW PLAY FESTIVAL, Friday at Thalian Hall.  An exciting festival of never-before-produced works by authors under 18 years old.  Local writers and educators guide the playwrights through workshops to prepare the plays for their premier.
  • FIREWORKS IN DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON, Friday at Riverfront Park in Historic Downtown Wilmington.  Tune in to WGNI 102.7 for the simulcast choreographed music.  The fireworks are in celebration of the commissioning of the New USS NORTH CAROLINA Submarine.
  • 22ND ANNUAL PARADE OF HOMES, Saturday and Sunday. 
  • OPEN HOUSE AT BENNETT BROTHERS YACHTS, Saturday.  They will be serving breakfast and having a nautical yard sale. Bennet Brothers is located at 1701 J.E.L. Wade Drive.
  • 19TH ANNUAL RIVER TO THE SEA BIKE RIDE, Saturday at 8:45am.  An easy, casual -paced 20 mile ride to Wrightsville Beach Park and back.  Refreshments will be provided at the halfway point.  The bike ride will begin at Thalian Hall in Historic Downtown Wilmington.
  • CAROLINA BEACH BOARDWALK MAKEOVER CELEBRATION, Saturday in Carolina Beach.  Plenty of events which include a parade, performances, eating contests, art, bands and fireworks.  The Celebration begins at 8:30am.

There is a lot going on this weekend in Wilmington!  I hope you can get out and enjoy some of the fun activities.  It looks like we will have warm weather so that you can fit the beach plus looking at Wilmington Real Estate in between all of your other activities in.  Enjoy! 

  • ONE TAKE FILM FESTIVAL, Friday through Sunday.  You have twenty-four hours to make your own movie.  On day one you will be given five minor requirements at the Hilton Riverside in Historic Downtown Wilmington.  You will be the producer, director, star and cinematographer of your own film.  If you are in the top ten your movie will be shown at Thalian Hall. 
  • HARBOR ISLAND GARDEN CLUB ANNUAL HOME AND GARDEN TOUR, Friday from 9-5pm.  Walk through breathtaking homes and spectacular gardens on the coast.  Tickets may be purchased at the Harbor Way Gardens in front of the Wrightsville Beach Fire Station on the day of the tour.  All proceeds will go to the preservation and beautification of Wrightsville Beach. 
  • FOURTH FRIDAY GALLERY WALK, Friday evening.  Fourth Fridays include opening receptions, artist discussions, live music, wine food and other traditional art related activities. 
  • 22ND ANNUAL PARADE OF HOMES, Saturday and Sunday.  Sponsored by the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association. 
  • 2ND ANNUAL STREET FESTIVAL IN KURE BEACH, Saturday.  Enjoy the sites and sounds of Kure Beach in front of Kure Beach Pier.  There will be dozens of arts and crafts booths, a variety of food and beverage vendors and plenty of music. 
  • JUNIOR RANGER DAY, Saturday at Moores Creek National Battlefield.  Upon completing a workbook each child will recieve a Junior Ranger Badge. 
  • 36TH ANNUAL ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE SHOW, Saturday at Independence Mall.  Vehicles 25 years and older are allowed.  There will be awards, drawings and door prizes.  Over 125 vehicles are expected to attend.
  • ONE TREE HILL CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME, Saturday at the Cape Fear Community College Schwartz Center.  **SOLD OUT**
  • SPRING FLING & FASHION SHOW, Saturday at 11am.  Presented by The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.  11am is the Silent Auction, 12pm is the luncheon and 1pm is the Fashion Show.  The show will take place at the Senior Center.
  • EARTH DAY 2008-TREES PLEASE, Saturday at Hugh MacRae Park.  Come out for a fun day of live music, good food and environmental information plus activities for all ages.  Over 40 environmental exhibits will be on display, organic food and beer, Kid’s Eco Zone and hands on activities. 
  • WILMINGTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, Saturday at 7pm.  The show will take place at the UNCW, Kenan Auditorium.  Sunday’s show will be a free family concert.

The Spring Challenge will begin tomorrow and goes through Saturday at Wrightsville Beach.  The Wrightsville Beach Marina Spring Challenge has teamed up with The Cape Fear Blue Water Open to create 2008 Spring Challenge presented by the Cape Fear Blue Water Fishing Club.  The two tournaments combined create the best fishing tournament for Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin and Bluefish.  The Captain’s Party will be on Wednesday, and fishing will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The tournament will be at the Wrightsville Beach Marina.  To learn more about the 2008 Spring Challenge or Wilmington Real Estate contact me at 910-431-9395.
