There was an interesting article in the Star News today that talked about the decreasing amount of marinas and boat access in New Hanover county. 3 years ago dry stack storage at Creekside Yacht Club near Wrightsville Beach cost between $18,000 and $45,000, today they range from $90,000-$145,000 if there are any available. In the last 15 months only 9 of 400 slips have changed hands. The demand for waterfront property from Southport to Scotts Hill has turned coastal marinas into hot commodities causing the prices for docks and dry storage to go higher and higher. This has made it harder for the average boater to find access to the water. Now investors are snapping up slips that have become available on the Cape Fear River which have never been considered prime boating waters. It was reported that the state has a committee that is studying this issue of water access but it may be too late for New Hanover County. Now is the time to get your boat slip! To learn more about Wilmington boat slips or Wilmington Real Estate contact me at 910-431-9395.
